Junkies in Saigon Part 1

I think it all began the week before New Years Eve. Carla Laus, a close friend of mine was visiting for the holidays and wanted to hook up. Being that I don’t entire go out that much unless its work related, I simply invited her to our pre-Give A Damn gig at Capones where we were played a few songs. She liked what she saw and had pretty much right then and there decided that she wanted us to play in Saigon, Vietnam. She said, “Send me a video of you guys playing a song so I can show it to my good friend who’s a concert producer/promoter”! I was a bit drunk and couldn’t quite believe it to be realistic so I shrugged it off, although produced the video via facebook. Rupert, the producer, saw the video and gave the go signal! I couldn’t believe it! New Years had just passed and it was 2009 and we were going to Vietnam!

There’s a long story with how we got off work for 7 days and how our drummer who also plays in another band had to explain that he was leaving the country on such short notice and problems with passports and it being Chinese new years but lets skip all that and just say that we got what we needed to get done, done!

And so on January 21, the Blue Jean Junkies were at the Ninoy Aquino Airport Terminal 3 waiting for our midnight flight to Saigon! First time for each of us, and none of us knew a damn thing about the place except that it was in Vietnam!

We got there at about 130am, Carla and Rupert were there to pick us up and though we were invited to a French Party we opted to get a bite to eat instead and chill for the long week ahead. We each had some Pho and was shown how to eat it and how this leaf does that and that leaf does this and tasted chili sauce Vietnamese style! After eating our Pho over a few beers we decide “Alright lets head out and check into our hotel and put our guitars down”. We checked in and were shown a few nearby bars where we could easily get to without needing to be shown around. We said our goodbye’s to Carla and Rupert and minutes later decide to drink some beer at Go To Bar which was a minutes walk away from our hotel.

Getting Started

It was fun sitting in that bar, loads of people but everyone taking it slow, I sat at the bar and ordered us 3 beers. In no time a Vietnamese local was sitting next to me asking me if she could crash at our hotel for the night, hooker. I shooed her off and carried on with the band. Nino ended up convincing the bar to let him use facebook while Niko and I decide to have a look upstairs! HOLY FUCK! Go To Bar’s upstairs was happening!!! For lack of a better word that is. It was pumping with white guys and girls, dancing to fucking Eminem while everyone sang along but it was fun to see everyone being so into it and in a great mood! We stayed awhile, maybe 2 to 3 rounds. I spilt some guys beer all over the floor by accident and he didn’t like it much. After a few Eminem tracks I couldn’t take it and asked Niko if he was ready to head out. Down we went, Nino was just about done, and we called it a night.

Rupert and I

The following day was Thursday the 22nd, first day of our series of gigs. We woke up a bit early and took to the streets! The 3 of us got ourselves together and made our way out for a Vietnamese lunch. We went up the street and took a left, saw a series of shops and café’s and made our way into this one place that didn’t have too many tourists. We had a look at the menu and ordered beef and chicken. After eating another delicious meal, Niko and I thought to go for a walk just to see what was around while Nino went ahead to the room. Being a bit off our heads and tired plus having a long day ahead, we went back to the hotel. Rupert had come to get us at about 4pm for sound check. He decided to walk to the venue since it wasn’t too far away. 20+ minutes later I wished we had taken a cab because my bass is not light and walking around wasn’t that easy, especially in fucking Saigon traffic! But we got to Sheridan’s and met the owner Mike. He had a word with us, said our hello’s and got the deal for the night explained to us. We were to play 2 sets of about an hour each, acoustic, and with percussions. Bass straight to the mixer controlled by a cool sound engineer who doesn’t speak much English. It was Rock and Roll. Sound check was ok, we got a bite to eat, and made our way back in time for our sets.

Carla Nino me and Niko

First set was good. Nothing explosive and very unusual for the Blue Jean Junkies but it was good fun all the same. We played mostly covers and the set felt longer than I thought it was. I’d asked Rupert how we were doing with time and he said that we’d been playing for about 35 minutes when we’d finished our set list of 8 songs so we needed to come up with a list on the spot to fill in the remaining 25 minutes. We did, then took a break, had more beer, and met some people. Mike told us that he felt we were holding back and to just do our thing and not worry about making too much noise, even though we were in this fairly small pub. We say ok, drink more beer, meet more people, say hi to some people we’d already met, and had a few laughs. Suddenly it was time to start the 2nd set, we were ready. Tanked up we hit the stage without a set list and began. It must have taken about a song or two for us to start getting really into it. Without warning we were rocking and feeling the heat! Carla sang a song or 2 with us, the audience requested songs by singing song lyrics’ in between songs, and people were now standing directly in front of us giving us less room than from what we already hardly had, but we loved it! The connection we reached with them was beautiful and we were all on the same boat, a bunch of people out having a good time while getting tanked up! Only difference was that we had instruments with us, but we were all rocking! It was a great night and in the end Mike even gave us Sheridan’s T-Shirts as well as asked us to sign his posters because he wanted to put it up with his other posters in the pub which consisted of some great musicians known worldwide, it was an honor for us to be amongst some jazz greats!

The Blue Jean Junkies Tanking Up!

Anyway, we got paid a bit extra in Dong (Vietnamese currency) and made our way out. Nino wanted to check out Vasco’s which is where we were scheduled to play the following night, Carla took him. I don’t know what happened to Rupert but Niko and I had only one thing on our minds: we weren’t looking to pick up any women, we didn’t need to see the clubs that people had been talking about, nor were we itching to check out more fucking Eminem music at Go To. So, were told that you can smoke ganja at this bar if you buy it there, plus they sell beer too! Without needing any more info we grabbed our stuff and hailed a cab! I think we must’ve put our stuff in the hotel before going cuz I don’t remember having my bass with me there. Anyway, we found our way and were there! Its on the same street as our hotel, Vui Diem, and just a 10 minute walk down the road. We were greeted by these 2 local girls wearing simple clothing and took a seat on some bar stools by a high table. Since we’d drank nothing but Saigon Bia (beer) the first night, we decided to drink Tiger Bia’s this night. Beers are served and just as I’d hoped was true, 3 joints were handed to us. It was like being in heaven! I had to ask the waitress twice if I could really just light up and they said “yes of course go ahead”! WOW! I love Saigon! I don’t know how long we stayed there but it was pretty long as many rounds and repeated orders were placed and by the time we walked home I told Niko “Fuck dude I think were lost” to which he replied “But were just on the same street as where we live”. I guess I was high! He even wanted to check out Go To but I begged off and crashed. He did the same. Nino shows up I don’t know how much longer and next thing I know it’s the next day.

Junkies in Saigon Part 2wo

I don’t know what time we woke up but I remember screaming off our balcony “Gooooood Mooorning Vietnam!!!!” after which I was told to shut up and reminded that we were in a socialist communist country. But I was in a great mood and we’d had a great first night of the shows and we were well appreciated and the spirit that exists in you when that happens is really just a monster of energy! Rupert came over and asked how our night was to which I think he saw in our eyes the answer without our needing to actually say anything. We chilled out for a bit then decided to head out and take care of a few things. One of them was the idea of selling CD’s of some of our unreleased tracks that had already been mixed and mastered. As part of walking around a bit the day before, Niko and I had already found a great spot to burn a bunch of CD’s for a price that was waaay better than the other places we’d inquired. So, we took care of that and hung around while the CD’s were burning. We made 15 copies and hoped that we’d sell enough to at least pay for the cost of making them. Anyway, after making the discs we headed back home for much needed rest cuz we knew that the Vasco’s gig was going to be huge and that rest was going to pay off later in the night.

We each napped and woke up in time for sound check. We must’ve played 2 to 3 songs to get our sound the way we wanted to with the amplifiers and vocal tones, niko had the problem of a revolving drum kit but was able to deal with it by simply moving his stool a bit to the right after each song. I had a quick beer with Rupert while packing up then it was time to head out. Deciding that we needed a bite to eat I suggested Lily’s Café down the street where the love is strong and the police are nowhere to be found! We got settled, ordered a bite to eat, waited for the food, ate, then went home, all in under an hour. Meanwhile, Rupert was out looking for CD cases. We were all hell bent on selling some CD’s and making some money since we didn’t really have a lot to begin with.

I can no longer remember what time we had to be ready for Rupert to pick us up but as usual, we weren’t quite ready when he arrived but we were awake and slowly moving. The next thing I do remember is arriving at Vasco’s and loving that there were already a number of people there having some cocktails and that I started feeling the energy of the night. It was good energy. Hot! Exciting! Comfortable and almost spiritual in its ethereal presence. Niko and I sat at the bar while Nino talked to some old friends from Manila. We met Niko’s cousin, Dose, who was set to spin before, inbetween and after our sets. His wife Lori was there as well, and Rupert’s girlfriend too! While chatting with these people we ended up meeting more people and before I knew it I could no longer remember the names of everyone that we were there with. We met Melanie through Lori and were warned to stay away from her, which we did not and im glad we didn’t because she turned out to be one of the best people we’d gotten to know while we were there! Anyway, drinks start pouring, we ask what their strongest beer is and get served a couple of 333’s ( or in Vietnamese, bababa ). We learn that we have a bottle of scotch but decide to hit that later on instead and just pay for a few beers ourselves in the meantime. Shots of tequila’s were quite abundant as well and by that I knew that tonight was going to be pure madness! I ask about our timeline, how long before were set to play and was told at least an hour more before we begin, “What?!” I said, “Oh man, were gonna be so drunk tonight” I resigned. Maybe 20 minutes later people were asking me what time were starting to which I say at least an hour more but then they argue to start sooner. I said its not up to me but im ready to go. Another 20 minutes pass and were told to hurry up and begin but this time its by Rupert so there’s no messing about. We ask for 5 minutes more for the band to sort of put together a set list and have our time alone before hitting the stage of the already packed Vasco’s. Rupert agrees and we step outside with pen and paper in hand. We shared a guiness glass and made a set list which im not sure we followed. Then we were rushed to begin and with that we ditch the list, take the beer and head to the stage.

The first real rush of energy I got that night was going up on stage. I don’t know if Niko was up there yet, but I clearly remember the roar of the audience when we set foot on the stage. I mean, I still had to get my bass out of its case, tune her, and wait for Nino to get tuned to before we could get started, I even wanted to Pee before starting, but man when we set foot on that stage, the crowd screamed, clapped their hands, roared Rock and Roll and the house lights were shut down. This was it I said, lets fucking go!

We started with Backdoor Man and slowly felt the music sink in to our bones. Playing with its dynamics we rolled and tumbled as the song played itself. I heard Niko pounding a little bit louder than usual and went with his flow. By the end of the song I knew we were gonna play a good set. Everyone was into it, us, the people around us, and the people below our ledge. You could feel the vibe and everyone was feeling alright. They cheered us as we played song after song of mainly our originals and a few chosen covers that we thought were good choices. Im guessing we played for about an hour before we took a half hour set break. We were drunk and so was everyone else! The place was packed and the music was pumping! We laughed and had toasts with everyone we talked to and met some other people while in the crowd. A drink or two pass and Nino and Niko decide to go downstairs and away from the madness for a bit before we start our second set. I was drunk and just followed without thinking much. Coincidentally I saw an old friend Chuk downstairs and was really happy to see him there! Then we were called to start the second set.

This is where the blur really begins. I know that we started the second set with Freeway Man. A hard and loud song that we’ve only played mid set, or towards the end, but never in the beginning. It was great! Maybe a couple of mistakes in the opening section but we got with it soon enough and played it well. I particularly enjoyed hearing Nino sing in Tagalog for a section of the song. But I don’t remember what else we played after that. I have idea’s and I know we did a whole bunch of originals as well as Ziggy Stardust, Riders On The Storm, and Waiting For The Man, but im not sure what else. And then Carla came up to me and said last song! I was shocked, but then I was told that the police were downstairs and threatening to close down the party! I Wasn’t ready to stop yet, and neither was Niko, nor was Nino! So we played 2 more instead. Cant remember what the first of the two was, but we ended with Dylan On Speed. Great number! We all enjoyed playing it and singing back-up and by the looks of the audience they were just enjoying its speed, loudness, and trippy middle section! It ended with a bang and we left the stage! Awesome gig! People came up to us and congratulated us! Drinks were passed around! We got hugs from those that we’d gotten close to! It was just great man, what a feeling!

As you can probably guess, the night didn’t end there. No, there was a celebration and we proceeded to have more drinks and paint the town red! From Vasco’s we walked over to Apocalypse Now stopping on the way there to sit on some chairs that had been tossed out by some owner that no longer wanted them. From Apocalypse Now we went on over to Go 2 passing by the hotel real quick to leave our guitars. Not only were we the band but we were with some friends we’d met along the way as well and in the end had a great night out! And as usual, we stopped by Lily’s Café for another night cap.

The Paradox of the Rock Goddess

LAST New Year’s day, 32-year-old Anabel Bosch was spending the afternoon watching TV with her boyfriend Reg and her 11-year-old daughter Mishka. It was a lazy day, one that she so deserved, after working long hours over the holiday break and even on Christmas day itself.

Her life loomed large before her: everything that she had been working for in the past year would finally come to fruition in 2009—the new apartment, her recent promotion, planned trips out of town with her beloved, her family and friends…

A few hours later, she was unconscious in the ER, the right side of her brain heavy with clotted blood. She would never wake up again.

For those who knew her, Anabel was the ultimate Rock Goddess. In everything she did, she sought to express herself and her many passions through music and poetry.

Having grown up in the Bosch compound in the 1980s, she attributed her early start in art and music to her uncle, the veritable counter-culture hippie icon of Manila also known as the “guru of Ermita,” Pepito Bosch. Hers was a rather unconventional childhood, to say the least. Her uncle liked to surround himself with artists, philosophers, writers and musicians of the time, among them visual artists BenCab and Roberto Villanueva, filmmakers Butch Perez and Peque Gallaga, and writer Krip Yuson. It was in the company of people like these that Anabel learned to appreciate all forms of art, and to become open to all the possibilities that the universe had to offer.

By the age of 13, Anabel was already singing for big bands like Cocojam. As she got older, she moved on to other bands like Tropical Depression, Spy, Elektrikoolaid, and finally, Analog. Together with guitarist Ian Umali and her best friend and fellow musician Romina A. Diaz, she co-wrote and recorded a series of yet unreleased songs called “The Dizzy Project” in March 2003.

Says Sammy Asuncion, front man of the Franco-Filipino rock group Spy, for which Anabel sang in the late 1990s: “Anabel was a real rocker through and through. It was her attitude, her motto, her very spirit.” Her long-time friend, music producer and photographer Wam Molina describes her voice as “rough yet ethereal, sweet, sad, and sophisticated.” Local guitar legend Wally Gonzalez of the Juan De La Cruz Band, with whom Anabel often performed, adds: “No one was like her. When you heard her voice, when you saw her on stage, you knew it was her. She was one of a kind.”

Indeed, the first time I saw Anabel perform onstage, my hackles stood on end. When she sang, she turned her body inside out, making herself the center of gravity in the room and transcending form: becoming child, lioness, temptress, angel, mother, daughter, sister, all at the same time.

We were an unlikely pair: Anabel Bosch, the brash, sexy rock star, and Ginny Mata, the clumsy, bookish writer, but strangely enough, we made sense.

Like me, she was, at her very core, a lover of words in a way that gave shape and sense to the world. And over time, thanks to her, I discovered that I had some of that strength and swagger in me as well. She knew this from the very beginning before I myself became aware of it, and she wrote about our funny friendship in her blog (http://dizzychick76.multiply.com):

She writes: “When we walk around a mall or sit together, people throw us funny looks. Curiosity must be killing them. There I am, in some tiny tank top with my numerous tattoos on display, black eyeliner, nose ring, chain-smoking Marlboros, and there’s Ginny, in her pretty blouse, fresh-faced beauty and honest eyes, sucking on her asthma inhaler. Me with a beer, (she) with her bottle of water. I look like some biker chick, the bad girl, and she looks like the poster child for the ’good girl.’ Not that looks are that deceiving; she is a good girl, but I know there is an evil glint in her eye from time to time. And I’m not bad, I’m just inked that way.”

Anabel loved getting tattoos, even claiming that she felt sexual ecstasy while having color drilled into her skin. Yet for some reason, she feared getting injections in doctors’ clinics and hospitals. The thought of undergoing a simple blood test scared her out of her wits, but she actually looked forward to having entire parts of her body tattooed.

Starting when she was 15, Anabel marked the most important events and changes in her life with symbols and images on her skin. The first one was that of a gecko, drawn crawling up her lower back, which represented the tuko (lizard) in the garden of the Bosch compound, “(which) kept her company through her pre-adolescent turmoil.” Over the years, the rest followed: delicate curlicues on the inside of her wrists, a sun-crescent moon on her left arm, butterflies on her right forearm and her left ankle, a small devil etched in red and gold at the base of her nape, and a small, mischievous fairy fluttering just above her bosom. Finally, there were the wings she became known for, the solid blue angel wings spread across her entire back.

Yet unlike other goddesses whose wings are simply given to them, Anabel had to earn hers. And how! For most of her life, she had to fight to earn the respect of her elders and her contemporaries, to overcome agoraphobia and severe panic disorder, and find a literal and proverbial home of her own.

Anabel took not only to music, but also to writing, like a swan to water. Her mother Evelyn Bosch, who herself did major production work for many years, and from whom she learned the basics of the business, says: “(Anabel) grew up to become a rock star, yes, but more than that, she was a real critical thinker; she questioned so many things, yet she sought the answers on her own.”

Anabel began writing volumes and volumes of journals when she was 12 or 13. Poetry came easily to her, which she then poured into the songs she would write with the musicians that she hung out with at the Bosch compound, like Sammy Asuncion, Rolly Maligad, and Jun Lopito. “She wrote very fast, and very well,” says Sammy, “we’d just sit on the front porch, and within one afternoon, we’d already finish a good song.”

One of her closest friends, American journalist and documentary filmmaker Nancy Collins, who has known Anabel for many years, explains: “In my line of work, I’ve met many brilliant, amazing people, but I can honestly say with complete conviction that Anabel was one of the most selfless, insightful, and perceptive people I have known. She gave of herself so much that it hurt her. She could cut through the BS, get to the heart of the problem and find solutions right away.”

Strange to think, then, that Anabel could easily do this for other people, but rarely for herself, save for the last few years of her all-too-brief life.

I became close to Anabel towards the end of December 2006: at the time, her seven-year marriage to theater actor Jamie Wilson had just ended, so she had to decide how she was going to survive, and take care of her daughter, 11-year-old Mishaela (Mishka).

Prior to this, Anabel had also only recently recovered from the extreme agoraphobia brought on by her severe panic disorder. With the help of her good friend Apa Ongpin, she was able to find psychiatric help. During the course of her treatment, Kathy Chua Chiaco brought over tattoo artist Martin Caoile to her house, where the famed wings began to form on her back. The tattoo was completed after a month and a half of work. “I wanted to fly, to not be held down anymore,” Anabel had said. Coincidentally (or not), on the night the tattoo was finally finished, she made it out of her house for the first time in four years.

She wrote about this disorder in her blog, a few months before her death: “For four years, I was unable to work, unable to go out for even the most mundane of things, like grocery shopping or bringing my daughter to school. I felt so completely, absolutely alone. My closest friends know what those years were like for me. I was almost 30 when I made it back out into the world (no small feat) and I really don’t want to go back into that dark place. So I struggle. I fight it.”

And fight it she did.

After her separation from Jamie, Anabel needed to build her life from the ground up. She moved back into the Bosch compound in Pasay, where she was able to re-establish strong bonds with her family, particularly with her mother and her sisters Nadine and Marlies. And eventually, when she least expected it, she also found love again, with photographer and Oarhouse co-owner Reg Hernandez.

Finding a job, on the other hand, was a different matter altogether: a four-year hiatus from the workforce simply did not look good on one’s resume. Several months passed, with her doing freelance projects and writing gigs in the interim, before she was able to land a stable, well-paying job as a writer and researcher for a US-managed data mining company in Manila.

Grateful for the work, she put in 10 to 12 hour days to meet (and exceed) her quota and produce high quality output, going so far as to give up precious sleep as well as much-needed time for herself. Much to her chagrin, she also had to stop doing gigs with her band Analog to be able to focus on her work. Within a year, she rose to the top to become editor-in-chief of the firm.

The money she was earning afforded her the opportunity to move into a place of her own with Mishka. It was the first step towards achieving her cherished dream of home. Proud and excited, in the thick of setting up her kitchen (even hugging her brand new refrigerator in sheer gratitude), carefully choosing sheets for her beds, and painting her walls, she wrote to us: “I can’t wait to show you my apartment when it’s done … almost there, folks, almost there.”

Unfortunately, she was never able to finish it.

In the afternoon of January 1, 2009, Anabel suffered from massive intra-cerebral hemorrhage. After a successful surgery and after initial signs of improvement, her condition gradually deteriorated. Ten days later, in the early morning of January 11, she passed away quietly.

Ever the rock goddess Anabel chose to fly away when the moon was literally at its biggest and brightest this year. It was also the same night that her young daughter Mishka had her first-ever major ’gig,’ backed up by no less than the legendary Blue Rats, at a benefit show held for Anabel at Hobbit House. She sang ’War,’ the song her mother had written for her all those years ago as part of the Dizzy Project, when she was still agoraphobic and unable to leave her house: “Oh child, survive this / Oh child, be strong / Oh child, remind them / that every war is wrong / With you, let peace live on.”

When news about her illness broke out, Anabel’s friends from far and wide converged to help raise funds for her medical treatment. Her fellow musicians put together simultaneous benefit gigs for her, and everyone from Rock Ed Philippines to Romancing Venus to DRT productions to small, independent groups of friends acting on their own staged such shows at venues like TEN 02, Saguijo, Club Dredd, 19 East, Conspiracy, Route 196, among others.

The morning after the very first benefit show at Big Sky Mind on January 3, co-owner Shari Villa found a note taped to the door of the bar: “I don’t know her personally, yet her impact on me has remained since the first time I saw her at the Verve in Malate with Spy. I learned there was a benefit concert for this lady I admire so much. I wish her well.”

There was no signature, nor was there any name written on it, but attached to the note was a P1,000 bill, which helped raise the total amount collected at Big Sky’s fundraiser to P75,520.

Even after Anabel’s passing, such kindnesses still persist, like cool rain after a long drought. On the very night she was admitted into the ICU, I created a support group page on Facebook for her, to draw critical mass in a more organized fashion: within three days, more than a thousand people had signed up for it. Now, it has over 2,100 members. Hundreds of people from all over the world write to us, many of them strangers who have never even met Anabel, telling us how much they have been affected by her phoenix-like spirit, her amazing story, and our love.

Anabel, who for so long felt alone, was now anything but. She would have been 33 last January 25, yet for us, she is not absent. She is ever present in all things: in the air, the stars, the sun, the moon she so adored. As Wally so aptly put it, “for sure, she is rocking it out in heaven, with Billie and Janis and all the rest of the rock gods and goddesses.”

My crazy Saturday

I wear a few hats in the music industry. Mainly, I play bass guitar for a rock band and i handle content and partnerships for www.odysseylive.net. Last saturday, the 14th of March there were a few things that were scheduled that i had to take care of. www.splintr.com had booked my band, Blue Jean Junkies to be part of their Splintr Sessions wherein the band goes into a professional studio and is videotaped and recorded live while we played a few songs. Our calltime was 11am and we got there a little bit late. It didn't matter because though it was still early in the morning, there were delays already and the band before us had just gotten started. I had guessed that we wouldn't actually begin til about 1pm or so but it no longer mattered, we were there and it wasn't like i could lay back in bed for another 2 hours, right? So we just sort of hung out, got a bit stoned, and tried to relax while enjoying ourselves at the same time. Finally it was our turn. We got plugged in and set up and waited for the crew, both video and audio teams to get themselves together while warming up our fingers while finding that perfect sound for the recording. It didn't take too long and finally everyone was ready. We did the first song twice because we weren't exactly happy with the first take and carried on with the rest of our tracks. Though we weren't exactly happy with some of the other recordings, we sadly had to carry on due to the time constraint of the entire operation. In the end i spoke to the engineer and asked if i could come back when he mixes us so that i could do a couple of adjustments in an effort to sound better and cleaner in the final product. After doing 4 songs it was over and we were asked to hang around for the interview. That went by fairly swiftly and as soon as it was done i was out the door and on my way to visit my son, who had been waiting for me since about 1:30pm. I know, bad father, its not right to be late...but i did call him and he knew i'd be late. Nevertheless, i felt bad, which is why i rushed over.

My afternoon with my Son was good fun! We ate a feast and enjoyed some video games. We watched some tv as well and eventually went up to his room to play around and mess about as we always do. I was secretly happy that it wasn't one of my visits where were sword fighting or playing football for hours because i knew i was tired from the night before, my lack of sleep, my early morning start, the time spent at Splintr.com, plus i knew that i had a long night ahead of me. Nonetheless, the not being able to lie down or nap for even 20 minutes eventually got to me and i started slowing down. My son noticed this and so we sort of chilled out a bit as well by getting fake tattoo's onto our hands and arms and though that was another half hour on my feet, it was ok since i wasn't moving around much and we were pretty much just playing with some water.

By 830pm i had to split. I'd (figuratively) put on yet another hat and prepared myself for the Als Bar Gig that i'd set up and entitled "Riot"! Not only was i the head organizer for the gig but my band was also playing the event. The stress of not too many people being there was not good for me. Which by the way is an odd thing because you can ask any of my friends, im a fan of empty bars and good music! To me, it gives the people who are there a chance to really listen to the music and spend a more intimate time with their friends, but as an OdysseyLive.Net event, the emptiness caused the stress as opposed to the other way around.

Anyway, first band got started at 11, yup i know that's late, but i didn't want them playing to an empty bar so i waited for some more people to get there. Problems came and went as the night progressed. Some bands couldn't make it at their call time, another band had to cancel their set when their singer lost his voice, and my biggest problem...everyone wanted to play "Next", regardless of who was onstage. That problem actually isn't so much a problem but sometimes it does make me think that they just wanna be over and done with, and i dont blame them for that being in a band myself. But as an organizer, it does kind of hassle you. I mean, why would you plan out who goes first second and so on if in the end everyone is just gonna request being next?

But all in all it was good. I had fun and i guess the people that were there had fun too. I saw smiles on people's faces so i reckon thats a good thing right? Im sure the "cigarette" breaks some had on the balcony participated in that said fun too! When it was all over, it was late. Too late for me to follow to my really good friends farewell party, he left for new york the next morning and i didn't get to see him anymore. And too late for me to even eat, though i was starving! I'd even made an attempt to get a bite to eat by saying that yes i'd join the rest of them who were all hungry but while parked outside of sinangag express before getting out of my car, i'd just realized that fuck this man im tired and live so far and just wanna go home!!! So i did!

The last part of this mad story is that after driving myself from sucat to greenhills, i'd discovered that the elevator of my building was fucking broken and i live on the top floor! So, with a big bag of clothes from the night before and everything i needed that day, and my big and heavy bass guitar, i walked up 12 floors up the fire escape and finally into my apartment. By the time i got to my room, it was 530am and i was dripping sweat! I couldn't even be bothered to take a shower man, i just undressed everything and plopped down on my bed and passed out in an instant!

That's how crazy my saturday was!

First of all, i need to give a special thanks and mention to 2 significant people for getting me to do what i did.

Wendell Garcia of MTV! Thank you brother! Without you i wouldn't even have gone...so eternal thanks to you man!

Kay Torres of Fully Booked. Without your camera, i would only have words. Thank you for lending me that beautiful piece of machinery!

http://www.ticketworld.com.ph/

There will be no SVIP Tickets. Even the band has a very limited guest list so buy your tickets the moment they are for sale as these will no doubt be sold out in record time!

The details as to when and where tickets will be sold will soon be announced! Please check this blog regularly for site updates!

The band will also be playing more than 15 songs! Some of the songs that they did on the first show will be repeated, mostly their singles.

Its going to be a bigger venue so expect more than the prospected 50,000 people that were at the Fort last August 30, 2008.

The band has said that they would like to be more involved with the production. For example, Rayms said that during the first show, he knew that there were going to be fireworks, although he did not know as to what extent. This is an example only of how the band would like to be more involved with everything happening around them.

They are also glad to be given this second opportunity to finish what they started. So for those of you who are complaining that the first show was so bitin, imagine being in their shoes! It must be so much more bitin for them.

When Eli was asked about his health condition, he says that he's been exercising, then goes on to saying "well no, not really". But then concludes that he's been doing some walking as exercise and plans on getting alot of rest before the show. He's also staying healthier than he was and assures us that an Angioplasty is really quite ok and not the worst thing ever!

When asked what the audience can expect on the March 7, 2009 Final Set:

A Group Hug if the audience does it first!

Whereas they would love to hear the audience do the countdown again!

When ask why we should all come to the show, Rayms says:

"We will rock your pants off and melt your faces"!

There's more i can say but i'd really much rather let the band speak for themselves through their music that has touched each and everyone of our hearts and spoken so loudly already just doing that.

Love you guys! I cant wait for the 7th! Rock On!

GARY V and SPONGE COLA EXCLUSIVE "AYT"

I was fortunate enough to have been invited to the first rehearsal of Sponge Cola collaborating with Gary V.! It was held at Gary’s studio in New Manila and was attended by only the people directly involved with Gary and Sponge Cola. In fact, I was the only person there from the media that was invited to cover this glorious gathering and what a great treat it was! Not only was the magic in the air, the vibes so easy and positive; but the energy that everyone had was beautiful as well. We were all excited to listen to how the song would play live but I hadn’t realized how amazing it would be to watch Sponge Cola and Gary V work together in that sort of environment.

Though the song was originally written and recorded by Sponge Cola, Gary’s involvement with the collaboration led to another visit into the studio in order to allow Gary to add his own flair onto the song. Titled “Ayt”, the song then was decided that a video would come next to this great collaboration. Though I wasn’t at the video shoot, I was told that it was really fun and that they all enjoyed filming it together. Director Quark Henares apparently couldn’t stop laughing during portions of the filming with everyone just having a good time and Gary doing crazy little stunts such as leapfrogging over Yael.

The song has never been played on television nor radio and will for the first time ever, be launched on the ABS-CBN hit noontime show Wowowee, tomorrow the 16th of May. The video will be launched at the Anniversary of Magnet High Street on the 22nd of May. However, it will not be the only time that the band and Gary V will be performing the song together. They also have an appearance at the MTV Exit show on the 22nd, and will then culminate at Magnet’s Anniversary.

The song “Ayt” itself is a great and catchy song. Definitely a good choice when deciding what song to collaborate with! It’s edgy and upbeat and positive and has these great dynamics and break downs and build-ups! The back and forth vocal duties of Gary and Yael are to me also a great match and I must admit that I think that their voices together on the same song is something that goes really well together. Yan Yuson of Archipelago plays guitar on the track as well and though he’s got some great melodies going, I was more drawn to his guitar solo played with a wah wah pedal! Listening to his solo made my hairs stand and I was really into it! Gary V also does some excellent stuff on the piano. Though it’s a guitar driven song, the piano parts that Gary added to the song are fantastic. Towards the end of the build up he even starts playing an almost solo piece that reminded me of an old school honky tonk style which fascinatingly enough, suited the song perfectly!

Beyond the song, it was quite an experience for me to just have been there watching and listening to them rehearse. Watching these seasoned, talented musicians working together and discussing certain parts; tightening the song and more was an educational moment for me as there was much to gain. Being a musician myself, I know I was able to pick up a point here and there from having observed the way they worked and seeing how much fun they had working together.

Thank you Ms. Twinky Lagdameo for inviting me over and to Sponge Cola and Gary V for welcoming me with open and inviting arms and spirits! I know I couldn’t stay til the end but I promise you that I felt bad having to leave early, though not too many words were exchanged, I truly had a blast with all of you!

Watch our for the video! Watch Wowowee tomorrow May 16, and see you guys at Magnet’s Anniversary! Ayt?!

Salute to Jam 88.3 for job well done!!!

During the September 26 typhoon Ondoy, Jam 88.3FM did something nobody else did...They stayed on air, canceling all their scheduled programs to report the latest on the flooding situation as well as the intensity of our state of calamity.

It started on Saturday at 4PM with DJ's Lambert as well as RockEd's Gang Badoy. Gang had felt that something needed to be done and right she was, many things actually needed to be done and the help they were able to provide proved to be useful in countless ways to countless people. As a matter of fact, due to the power failure's in various parts of Manila, most people were only able to gather information and the current status through their FM stations on their mobile phones and Jam 88.3 was the only station that spent all their time reporting these updates. Knowing that the help they were providing was useful, they stayed the night and were onboard all the way through to the next day...and the day after that, Monday.

By Monday, Jam had arranged for bands in the local music industry, both major labels as well as independent, to come in to the studio to play a few songs for the listeners as well as to tell their stories of how the typhoon affected them and their loved ones and friends. Not to mention the useful information everyone was able to provide in terms of learning which roads were now passable and which were still underwater.

DJ's Lambert, Gang, Steph, Migs Torres, Tracy as well as those who couldn't be at the studio stayed sharp in reporting any information they were able to gather and confirm and reported these details live on air. Meanwhile, they were also shuffling about and coordinating all the donations which were coming through the hall and into their studio, all while sorting out the schedule of the 31 bands that had confirmed to make an appearance and play on the show.

Some of those that came to play included The Bernadette's, Mayonnaise, Turbo Goth, The Camerawalls, The Ambassadors, Noel Cabangon, The Dawn, Kjwan, Julie of Julianne, Zach Lucero, Imago, Hannah of Session Road, Peryodiko, Playphonics, and Ernville. Kindly take note that this list is not complete. Other appearances were made by Kevin Roy of Razorback as well as Jeffrey Hidalgo.

Donations were also made by Zach Lucero, Lily Stars, Kerwin, Deekaye, Chino, Alex, Ian, Antonette, Niles of Angulo, Cholo of Ernville, Thom, Clayt, Jazz and Lloyd.

The stories that these guys shared were equally mind blowing! Zach lost his Mastering Studio which was in the basement of his home in Paranaque, Vin Dancel actually saved Abe the drummer of Peryodiko, Kelley of Kjwan was at home but the first floor of his house was flooded and he had to move his car to higher ground and had to walk in chest high waters, Gabby Alipe or Urbandub lost a portion of his ceiling but thankfully not the roof, and many others suffered many of their own troubles in this massive disaster.

OdysseyLive.Net would like to acknowledge Jam 88.3 for being angels over the airwaves over this trying time. With their help, they've been able to gather over 6oo water bottles, foods of all kinds, clothing, and continue providing us with current updates as to the conditions of the various area's of the country. Our deepest thanks to you guys, to say it was a job well done would be an understatement

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tropical Storm Ketsana triggered the worst flooding in decades in the capital Manila and nearby provinces.

Defence Secretary Gilbert Teodoro said troops, police and civilian volunteers had rescued more than 4,000 people - many clinging to each other on roofs.

More than 250,000 have been driven from their homes, officials say.

Military chief Gen Victor Ibrado flew by helicopter over suburbs of Manila on Sunday to see for himself drenched survivors marooned on top of half-submerged buses and on rooftops.

TV footage showed some survivors clinging to high-voltage power lines.

Correspondents say the rescue effort is intensifying as the weather cleared on Sunday.

But some reports estimate that 80% of the capital is still under water.

The government has declared a "calamity" in Manila and 25 provinces, allowing access to emergency funds.

Latest confirmed figures say that 73 people are dead and at least 23 others are missing.

One report puts the number of dead and missing at 106.

Manila bus driver George Andrada said he had lost everything in the floods.

"It happened very fast. All of a sudden everything was under water. I was not able to save anything except the shirt I am wearing," he said.

Lovely Lansang in Marikina, near Manila, says: "I am currently seeking refuge in a shopping centre. Many people are stuck either on their roofs or in the second storey of their houses.

"The city is also without clean water and electricity. Right now, I am still in the shopping centre because the roads here are impassable,".

The equivalent of a whole month's rain fell in six hours as Ketsana, also known as Ondoy, lashed the northern island of Luzon.

On Saturday, TV images showed gushing water turning roads into rivers, with floods chest-deep and rising.

Appeal for calm

Philippines President Gloria Arroyo appealed for donations and called for calm.

"I am calling on our countrymen, especially residents of metro Manila and other provinces in the path of the typhoon, to please stay calm, follow the instructions of local officials and civil defence authorities," she said in a TV message on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Mayor Mon Ilagan of the town of Cainta, in Rizal province east of Manila, told local media his town was "almost 100% under water".

Rizal Governor Casimiro Ynares was quoted by local media as saying other towns were completely inundated.

Roads leading into Manila were rendered impassable by stalled vehicles, and some ferry services were cancelled.

The Philippines chief weather forecaster has blamed climate change for the downpours that saw 40cm (16in) of rain fall on Manila in a single day.

Thousands of passengers were stranded as international and domestic airports were shut down.

Ketsana, with winds of up to 100km/h, is expected to head out over the South China Sea on Sunday and Monday.

Gabby's Surprise Birthday Party

The night was good fun! It all started a few days ago when Gab's girlfriend Erika got in touch with a few of us close friends to plan a little surprise for Gabby. Being that his birthday was tuesday, the 13th of October, she thought it would be a nice treat to celebrate the night before that way at midnight, Boom, its his birthday!

A few of us had just gotten back from the beach where we were on holiday since friday and made it to Bugsy's in pasig by around 10pm. Erika had planned on getting there shortly after us and sure enough, we were about 10 people by the time that they walked in.

Gab was surprised to see all of us there, even though he had texted us to say that he'd be there and for us to come for a few drinks! I guess he wasn't expecting all of us to be there and i think he was pleasantly surprised when people kept on coming!

In the end, we were a massive group (relative to the size of the place) and everyone had a great time celebrating his birthday!

Check out the pictures in the album below and check out the celebrities who came and made it to the party!

My Day at Tracks with Urbandub!

Working for OdysseyLive.Net is quite a fulfilling job! Since I’ve been here, I’ve been on the front lines of some of the most exciting times in local music and have been witness to some experiences so grand its hard to talk about even though the trip remains clear in my memory. I can name a whole lot of concerts and press cons I’ve been to wherein I was amongst the most elite of the Filipino Music Scene and i've as well been to some of the exciting behind the scenes plannings of these events and I have to say that I consider myself truly lucky to have been able to have been part of these shows/launches etc.

Today, I relish the fact to have been invited to be at one of the final recordings of the much awaited 5th Urbandub album “The Apparition”. Invited by MCA Music to be the only website (media for that matter) there, I immediately confirmed my presence and made arrangements to go together with Gabby Alipe (who happens to be my housemate).

We’d woken up late from having been out the night before at a Blue Jean Junkies gig at Capones Bistro and slowly put ourselves together in order for an entire day at Tracks Studio in Pasig City. I’d already heard all the songs that will be appearing on the album, as well as most of the fillers which will likewise be included but was excited to hear the finished products of their hard work as well as to see what the band is like when working in the studio! Upon arriving we said our hello’s and got settled right away as John Dinopol was already carrying his guitar and laying in a few guitar overdubs for one of the songs. Lalay Lim was playing bass in the waiting area and looked as if she was rehearsing some parts although did not lay in any bass lines on that day. Janjan Mendoza, ever the silent guy was actually done with all his drum parts already and was there enjoying the recording process and offering his opinion on certain changes the band was deciding on. Gabby soon after picked up his guitar and laid in a number of guitar overdubs as well!

I assume that many of their recording sessions at Tracks were as I saw it. No bullshit, no dilly dallying, no small talk for the sake of conversation, and definitely no nonsense! I have my own personal passed experiences of being in recording studios and I can vouch for Urbandub, these guys are professionals who know what they’re doing in the studio and simply get it done! Hunger may strike, fatigue may set in, the room can get too cold, but whatever it is, they are there doing what needs to get done and do it in true artistic glory.

All in all we spent a good 12 hours there, laying in guitar parts, deciding which guitar riffs would suit a certain song better, laying in a whole bunch of backing vocals and melodies, and I even got to scream on one of the songs together with Gabby, John, Lalay, and Ralf (Urbandub’s Road Manager) while Janjan videotaped us and Sir Angie recorded us. I doubt that you’ll hear my voice but im just glad to have somehow been included on the album.

The Apparition is scheduled to be launched on Friday the 13th of November. Today is November 4 and yesterday Gabby came home celebrating the end of the recordings. There was talk and wonder on whether the launch would be postponed what with having to mix and master all the tracks plus lay in all the fillers and I wonder how that is coming along but I am simply excited for this album.

As I said earlier, I’ve heard all the tracks and most of the fillers and I think its going to be a great album! For one thing, it’s a more mature album. The topics in The Apparition deal with topics such as politics and family and liberty! The writing alone was done in the mountains of Cebu at a “Hacienda” where they turned a now demolished house into a recording studio wherein the wrote most of the songs lyrics and music. So not only am I a fan of the actual songs and music but I love it that they all went back to their roots and only among themselves did they sit together for over 2 months spending day in and day out with just each other making music!

The band has also shared with me that they really did enjoy the Tracks Studio recording process because unlike their previous albums, this one was not entirely rushed! They had their time to sit and make it happen as opposed to forcing it out of themselves. They also had the freedom to use a whole bunch of equipment such as 3 different drum kits, a whole slew of amplifiers both for the guitars and for the bass, and Johns house for creating all the fillers which will make this Urbandub’s first gapless playback album as all the songs are now connected to each other. I also know that the artwork that will go with The Apparition is a far cry from anything Urbandub has ever done before! I don’t want to spoil the surprise but please be sure to get yourselves a copy of the original album as I guarantee you, you will want the sleeve and not some stupid pirated copy!

Congratulations to Urbandub! You guys have been great friends of mine since the release of Embrace and im happy to see all of you progressing so finely and making the talent in each of you shine brighter and brighter! You are an inspiration to me in so many ways and I thank my blessings for being part of your lives as well!

The Apparition: A supernatural appearance of a person or thing; a specter of phantom.

Why is Urbandub launching Apparition in SG before Manila?

Some people have been asking why Urbandub is launching their brand new album "The Apparition" in Singapore before they launch it in The Phiippines. In case you're one of these people, this is the answer: Typhoon Ondoy.

You see, the launch was originally scheduled for November 13, Friday. Friday the 13th to go hand in hand with the theme of Urbandub's first concept album, but Ondoy came and made it impossible to complete the album by the 13th.

The Singapore trip/launch was already scheduled and their being in Singapore now is just sticking to that schedule.

Instead, Urbandub will launch their 5th Album, THE APPARITION, on Nov. 28, 2009.

Only 600 Limited Edition Copies will be released and will contain the bonus track, Home.

Their doing an hour long show and want all you Dubistas to be there.

More info on the whereabouts of their launch will be posted here very shortly, stick around!

Mercedes Cabral Interview and HOT PICS!!!

Hi Mercedes how are you? First things first, thank you for this interview! I'm not actually surprised, your photos are hot hot hot!!!

Miggy: What kind of music do you like listening to? Are you more into local or foreign music and what sort of genre's of music are you most attracted to?

Mercedes: hmm...I like electronica. Frou Frou..Immogen Heap..Zero 7.. i loooooove Silverchair, especially the Diorama album, lahat ng songs sa album na yun gusto ko. i also listen to The Verve, Coldplay, Blur, Incubus, Maroon 5...madami e pro ung unang sinabi ko favorite ko.

Miggy: Wow i love your taste in music! What kind of musical events do you attend? Are you a club goer where you dance all night or more of a live band bar type of girl? Or perhaps you're the CCP type of girl where you watch plays and musicals?

Anyway, being a trained actress and model, are you also by any chance a singer? If so, what sort of songs do you sing and is there any chance us Mercedes Cabral fans would get a chance to watch you sing live?

Alam ko na may Boyfriend ka, what type of music does your boyfriend listen to? Do you share the same taste or do your ipods have completely different material?

Mercedes: Sooobrang magkaiba kami ng taste ng boyfriend ko pagdating sa music..ciguro yun lang ung bagay na magkaiba kami pero open naman kaming pakinggan ang music ng isa't isa..

Miggy: Oks yun! At least you learn new music all the time through each other. Is there anything specific that you like listening to when spending "alone" time with your boyfriend?

Mercedes: Hmmm...wala pero we have this look na ginagawa namin lalo pag nasa labas kami at gusto namin may mangyari but we can't kasi nga nasa labas kami tapos pareho naman nasa isip ung song na "let's get it on" hahaha! oh! saka "afternoon delight"..hahaha!

Miggy: Wow talaga?! Ok yun ah! I think i can learn something from you hehe :) Have you ever dated a musician? If so, what instrument did he play and what was he into? Rocker, hip hop, rave etc?

Mercedes: Hmm...nada.

Miggy: Nada?! Ok, Thanks Mercedes! Part 1 pa lang 'to ha...may follow up questions pa ako sayo next time! Salamat!

Mercedes: thanks miggy! sna ok mga sagot ko. text ka lng..happy new year!xxx

Merchandise in Music

I fuckin' love music! I love everything music and i love music related things like guitars and amps and drums and concerts and gigs and people who are involved with music and productions and working in the industry and of course i love listening to music! But if there's one thing that pisses me off about working in the music industry, its the fuckin' merch! Dont get me wrong, i love wearing all the shirts and seeing pins and hats and stickers and all that fun stuff, but putangina, i have never had a harder time dealing with merch than i am now!

For one thing, getting shit packaged is so much easier said than done! Sure, you could just use a plastic bag and its done, but if you want quality for the price people are willing to pay, then obviously you wanna produce something that at least looks good packaged, even if thats got nothing to do with the actual merch! Im fuckin' dealing with plastic bags of different sizes, impulse sealers and a blow drier to get it done and even with all that, i still gotta sort out cardboard paper cuz otherwise the package shrinks and crumples the magazine in the pack.

Surely i understand the need for all these things, but when your deadline was 2 weeks ago, you start thinking fuckin hell how hard is it to get a sample and check out the merchandise?!

Another thing, the fucking stickers that are gonna be put on the shrink wrapped merch. Man oh man oh man! Ridiculously expensive when you get quotations from suppliers, when in the end i learned that you can do it on your own with your own office printer and some sticker paper from national book store! So, from spending anywhere from 8k to 10k for 480 stickers, you can do it yourself for who knows how much, but definitely not in the thousands!

In the end, my problem with this isn't that i've had to figure out suppliers and who to call and what was needed (cuz this is my first time ever assigned to such a project), its that i had no one freaking guiding me and telling me what next step i needed to take in order to get this thing in the stores. Had someone in the office thought, "hey, he's new to this, he's never ever done anything like this, maybe i / we ought to help him?", this whole fucked up experience would have been completely different?! But no...im expected to know everything about everything when i've never even fucking heard the term shrink wrap!!!

And then man, there's the bar codes!!! This bit is one of the most irritating parts of this experience! Not only am i being harassed by my boss to produce them NOW, the only person that can guide me through what needs to be done is only guiding me on a step by step basis, like im some fucking idiot that cannot understand step 2 had she given it to me. Anyway, im just pissed off! This sucks!

And to think, i dont put it out of reality for my boss to fire me over this bullshit! Im on probation and if i dont deliver or impress him with what i am capable of, i just wont be surprised if he let me go. And that really sucks because i dont even have a job description! No one, including me (and of course my officemates) have a clue what im supposed to be doing in this office! So its not like i was hired to handle the merch, i was hired for this reason which quickly became that reason which quickly became another reason til finally i landed the production manager role, which pretty much has no role when there are no shows...so im really stuck in the middle and a hard place. Sucks man! And i love this job! I love the work and i love working with foreigners at their over the top professional ways!!! If i lose this job over merch, im gonna fuckin have a completely different and jaded view on the music scene and the people who run it...Fuck Me!

Shadow's Fall's "Retribution"

I met Shadow's Fall the first time they came to Manila. Actually, i knew they were coming and was really excited about their up coming concert but was saddened by the fact that i would not get the chance to see them as i was booked to be out of town that weekend. Luckily, PULP had decided to take the band to Boracay for a few days prior to the concert, which was exactly where i was booked to be!

So, one mid afternoon, i saw the guys walking down the beach with a videocamera and introduced myself! We got to chatting a bit then we went our separate ways! Later that night we ran into each other again only this time we were all drinking and having a great time!

I got to spend quite some time with Brian and he shared some stories with me as we sat on the beach passing a spliff to each other til it was dead and gone. Good fun and what a treat to hang with them, although i still wasn't gonna get to see the show! Fuck!

Retribution is an exclusive release in the Philippines done by PULP Live Productions! It contains 10 great tracks as well as a limited edition booklet which includes the lyrics to the tracks as well as photo's from their trip to Boracay (including a couple with me and my friends) as well as shots from their performances at A-Venue as well as the PULP Summerslam 9.

Grab a copy of this great new album and enjoy the songs and get tripped out by their trippy booklet!

Apparently i know Kelly Clarkson Songs!

Been working for PULP now for just over 2-3 weeks and its been really interesting! In my first week i just worked on the Super Junior Super Show. On the 2nd week, it was preparations for the PULP Summerslam. Now is my 3rd week and were getting ready for the Kelly Clarkson Live in Manila "All I Ever Wanted" tour.

At first my joy out of this came from loving the production side of putting together these big events. Like with Super Junior obviously its not music i listen to but man from the stage to the lights to the LED Screen and everything that came with it just made it so fascinating!

Now with Kelly Clarkson, its the joy of being able to put together her needs to do a concert! Yesterday we were youtube'ing her and realized that we all know or have at least heard so many of her songs. Songs were all catchy and great and im sure ill be singing along much more than i first thought!

Im excited for this show, even if im not that big a fan. I know its gonna be an awesome 19-song concert set and im sure she's gonna be putting everything she's got into this show! Are any of you guys coming? Would be cool to see friends there too!!! Lets go!
